The level of people’s participation in migration processes has decreased as compared with the previous year, demographer Ruben Yeghanyan said on December 21. Involvement of households in migration processes has also decreased following the significant growth recorded in the previous years. “Today, only 31.6 percent of households are involved in migration processes, the figures stood at 34 percent in the previous years,” he said. The demographer accounts it for several factors. “More migrants are returning to Armenia which is determined by changes in work environment and conditions, which, in turn, is caused by the situation in the Russian Federation.” In reply to A1+’s question why Armenians look for the right job opportunities overseas if they return empty-handed, Mr. Yeganyan said ‘the reason is the lack of an alternative.’ “A person suffers a setback yet he chooses to migrate as he has no alternative. Once you have a failure you should learn a lesson [from it], but at least you hope to make money there.”
