“STRUGGLE AGAINST POSTERS”

Armenia’s leadership is in a terrible plight. They fear the size, efficiency and reputation of the sit-down strike in the avenue.

RECURRENT INCIDENT IN NORTHERN AVENUE

There were no posters in Northern Avenue on August 25. Today at about 10.30 a.m. over 150 policemen and skinheads showed up in the avenue, shouted abuse at the sit-down strikers, tore posters and left taking along their posters. They even beat the strikers after they tried to save the posters.

NEW MOTTO OF THE ALL ARMENIAN NATIONAL MOVEMENT

At his today’s speech made in the Matenadaran square Levon Ter-Petrossian declared that from then on the motto of the All Armenian Movement was Serzh Sargssian’s resignation and the holding of special Presidential Elections.

NATIONAL CONGRESS “WAS BORN”

Minutes ago the member parties of the All Armenian Movement signed the Declaration of the Armenian National Congress and announced about their joining it. Sixteen parties joined the Congress.

TER-PETROSSIAN ANALYZING

The rally is still in progress in the Matenadaran square. As the weather cools down, the number of rally participants grows. At the moment Levon Ter-Petrossian is delivering his speech.

ALL IS SAID

During the All Armenian Movement rally his speech delivered Chairman of the “Hanrapetutyun” (Republic) Party Aram Z. Sargssian. “Let all the opposition leaders forgive me, but I have never met a more experienced and consistent political figure than Levon Ter-Petrossian,” he said.

TRYING TO HINDER THE RALLY

houting “Levon President” participants of the rally met Levon Ter-Petrossian and other leaders of the opposition. On the way up to the Matenadaran stage protesters welcomed the leaders and blessed them.

RALLY STARTS

After the All Armenian Movement representative Levon Zourabian “negotiated” with Deputy Chief of Police Alexander Afian, the rally participants were allowed to go up to the Matenadaran stage. What is quite surprising, policemen help the protesters to cross the streets by temporarily stopping the traffic.

GALUST SAHAKIAN IS GRATEFUL TO TER-PETROSSIAN

Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party Galust Sahakian considers himself a happy man for which he must be thankful to Levon Ter-Petrossian. According to him the reason for his happiness is Ter-Petrossian’s recent statement that he does not know any person called Galust Sahakian.

CAPITAL IS FULL OF POLICEMEN

At the moment the Police Special Forces are driving on Echmiadzin-Yerevan Highway into the capital. They bring special machinery, including watering trucks and barbed wire cars to Yerevan.

AUTHORITIES ARE FRIGHTENED

The All Armenian Movement Center issued the following statement: The All Armenian Movement Center has received numerous alarm calls from different regions of the country claiming that public transport serving the transformation of people from regions into the capital has been banned. In some regions bus stations have been closed.

JHANGIRIAN’S CLAIM REJECTED

Today the RA Administrative Court rejected former Deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangirian’s claim against RA ex-President Robert Kocharian’s two decrees. One of the decrees revealed Jhangirian of his post, while the other deprived him of his class degree.

DECISION ON JHANGIRIAN’S CLAIM TO BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW

Today the RA Administrative Court continued the investigation of RA Deputy Attorney General Gagik Jhangirian’s claim, which challenges the legitimacy of Robert Kocharian’s decrees.

BOJOLYAN PERSECUTED FOR A CRIME HE HAS NOT COMMITTED

Today the Committee for Political Prisoners made a statement that says: Murad Bojolyan, who was arrested by the special services of Armenia in 2002 and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for espionage was only an expert on Turkish studies and had agreed to make a review on the Armenian press for the Turkish Mass Media.

NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SARGSSIAN AND KOCHARIAN

Tomorrow the All Armenian Movement is holding a rally near the Matenadaran at 7 p.m. The leaders are going to sign the declaration of establishing the Armenian National Congress. However, it is going to be only a small part of tomorrow’s rally.

BANUCHIAN TO PARTAKE IN THE RALLY TOMORROW

“I am happy to be with you. I am happy not to be dangerous for the society,” declared Deputy Director of the Matenadaran Arshak Banuchian, who, in conjunction with 1 March events, had been detained for 123 days.

TWO ANTI-ARMENIAN RESOLUTIONS ON THE AGENDA

On September 16 among other issues the U.N General Assembly will consider two important questions referring to Armenia -“Unsettled conflicts within the GUAM” and “Current situation in the territories occupied by Armenia.” The agenda is already adopted.

SMBAT AIVAZIAN URGES TO CONTINUE STRUGGLE

“I have come to see you,” said member of the political board of the Hanrapetutiun Party Smbat Aivazian on entering the crowded court-hall. It is already five months Aivazian is imprisoned.

COURT SITTING ADJOURNED

The Appellate Court of the Republic of Armenia adjourned the hearing of Isahak Malkhassian's case for twenty days.

ENTREPRENEUR BECAME EXILE

Volodya Hovannissian, an opposition activist and Director of Aigeservice Ltd, stopped business activity in Armenia and moved to Tbilisi. Hovannissian says he escaped persecution and found a political asylum in Georgia.

ARMENIANS OF AMERICA SET DEADLINE

Armenians of America rallied to the appeal of the U.S. Center for Support of Levon Ter-Petrossian at 11.00 (local time) on July 29.

MIASNIK MALKHASSIAN LOST 21 KILOS

“On July 30 Armenia's detained MP Miasnik Malkhassian was taken to “Hospital for Convicts” Penitentiary Institution to undergo medical observation,” Press Secretary of the Criminal-Executive department of the Ministry of Justice Arsen Babayan informed A1+.
