Landfill appeared in Ashtarak orchards
Ashtarak residents have applied to Prime Misiter Tigran Sargsyan complaining about the inaction of governmental bodies - Nature Protection, Health, Agriculture and Urban Development Ministries in regard with the construction of garbage landfill, EcoLur NGO reports.
The problem is that Aragatsotn Regional Governor Sargis Sahakyan decided to equip a garbage landfill in the center of the territory, where orchards owned by 500 people grow. As the mass media say the project has been approved by Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan. "We had a meeting with the Governor on this issue still on 29 April and we asked Deputy Ministers of Nature Protection Minister, Urban Development and Agriculture to assist us. But so far no measures have been taken, and under our information, it's in active stage..." The residents are sure that stink smell and rodents will eliminate gardens. The statement says that the organization of such an object as garbage landfill site is and should obligatory undergo expertise and public hearings procedure. "No discussion was held..." they said. They also demand to provide information about the project, if it exists, about the company which intends to implement this project and to provide explanations what environmental impact is and what are risks of the garbage landfill for the town. So far no reply has been received.
We would like to add that our authorities don't like orchards and eliminate them at the drop of the hat. We didn't leave even our historical and cultural heritage - Dalma Gardens, which have persistently been eliminated for already 10 years with complete inactions of Nature Protection, Health, Agriculture and Urban Development Ministers and the Armenian Government.
