USSR People's Actor Oleg Yankovsky, 66, passed away today. He suffered pancreas cancer.
Because of the illness, Oleg Yankovsky had refused a few roles. But he continued to play in his favourite "Lenkom" Theatre acting in the spectacle "Marriage" by Gogol.
A month ago, on April 20, Oleg Yankovsky was taken to hospital from the stage. But the actor didn't surrender. In a week he could be seen on the stage playing the leading role in the spectacle.
In 2009 Oleg Yankovsky played in the film "Stilyagi" ("Dandies") representing a diplomatic father of a "golden youth" representative.
Yankovsky played in the following spectacles: "Not Included in Lists", "Optimistic Tragedy", "Hamlet", "School for Emigrants", "Gull", "The Barbarian and Heretic", "Clown Balakirev" etc. The great actor was also shot in dozens of films : "Flights in Sleep-time and While Awake", "My Tender and Gentle Beast", "Mirror", "Nostalgia" etc.
Oleg Yankovsky played leading roles in more than 70 films and spectacles.
He made his debut at the age 14 in Minsk when he replaced an ill actor.
Oleg Yankovsky is no longer alive but his numerous films will live for ever.
