Politics

Center-Nork-Marash first instance court continues seeking president Kocharyan’s favour.

Presidential candidates Artashes Geghamyan, Stepan Demirchyan, Aram Sargssyan, Garnik Margaryan, Vladimir Darbinyan and Aram Karapetyan have filed a motion demanding the court to find invalid the papers confirming Robert Kocharyan’s Armenian citizenship and his permanent residing in the country for the last decade.

Today, the court declined the above mentioned plaintiffs’ joint suit against the head of Armenian Passport and Visa Department Alvina Zakaryan who has issued these papers.

Alvina Zakaryan said her decision is grounded on a soviet-era legislation. “It is without question that after adoption Armenian Constitution a motion on 10-year citizenship can be sustained including the years of soviet epoch”, she said. The declaration on Armenia and Karabakh unification issued on December 1, 1989 by both Armenian and Karabakhi parliaments included not only territorial but also citizenship aspect, Zakaryan explained.

The court found Zakaryan’s written explanation convincing and declined the suit.

The complainants intend to file motion to the Appeal Court.
