Poll: Immigrants take jobs from European residents

Social
emmigration

A Sputnik.Polls survey has revealed that 47% of people in the UK, as well as 36% in Germany and 50% in France, believe that immigrants take jobs from local residents. The poll was conducted by French opinion and marketing research company Ifop and UK polling agency Populus for Sputnik News Agency and Radio. When asked whether or not they agreed with the premise that immigration was taking jobs from locals residents — almost a quarter (24 per cent) of UK residents were unable to answer. Meanwhile, respondents from France and Germany demonstrated better awareness of the issue — with only 5% of French people and 6% of Germans choosing to answer "do not know". In the UK, Populus conducted the poll from April 15 to April 21, 2016. The polls in France and Germany were conducted by Ifop from April 14th to April 18th 2016. The total number of respondents was 3,042: 989 in Germany, 1,008 in France, and 1,045 in the UK. The sample was representative of each country's populations in terms of sex, age, and geography. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1%, with a confidence interval of 95%. The international public opinion project was created in January 2015, in partnership with leading research companies such as Populus, IFOP, and forsa. The project organizes regular surveys in the United States and Europe on the most sensitive social and political issues.
