Eight inmates stage hunger strike in Vardashen prison
The number of inmates holding a hunger strike in the Vardashen prison has reached eight, Gor Ghlechyan, a spokesman for the Justice Ministry of Armenia, told A1+. They complain of the activities of the independent commission, which, they say, rejected their requests for parole without any reason. Retired army colonel Volodya Avetisyan started a hunger strike in the Vardashen penitentiary. Avetisyan, who was convicted of fraud, was sentenced to six years in prison in July 2014.
