I think the events of March 1 came to testify that the political elite of Armenia is not prepared for such processes. Obviously, the authorities didn’t properly estimate the public changes before and during the election, people’s readiness and will-power to struggle as well as the processes underway among the pro-government forces.
HUSIK BAGHDASARIAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT
Today the Court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor Marzes passed a sentence upon Husik Baghdasarian, a Karabakh war veteran, a Yerkrapah Volunteers’ Union member, Vazgen Sargsian’s companion-in-arms and former head of the Security Services at the RA Government.

Reporters asked the head of the CoE Ago Group Per Sjogren today why the Group's meeting with Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrossian took place in the latter's house instead of the Yerevan Hotel. “The venue was changed upon the request of Ter-Petrossian and we honoured it,” said Per Sjogren.
AGO GROUP DEMANDS RELEASE
“It is unacceptable for a CoE member state to have political prisoners,” reiterated the head of the Ago monitoring group Per Sjogren during today’s press-conference with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian. He pointed out that the Ago delegation is more extended than ever in Armenia, because of the situation following the March 1 events. The delegation includes delegates of 9 members of the Council of Europe.

SJOGREN MEETS WITH TER-PETROSSIAN

POLICE CAR CRASH
A Police car transporting prisoners from the court crashed into a “Mercedes” near Kentron and Nork-Marash First Instance Court at about 14:00. The accident resulted in a serious traffic jam. The “Mercedes” was utterly destroyed.
USA STILL HOPEFUL ALTHOUGH CONCERNED

NEW ARRESTS
Eleven people have been taken to the headquarters of the police department of Yerevan’s central Kentron district from Northern Avenue. Deputy Leader of the “New Times” Party (NZhK) Hrachya Sagsian and member of Levon Ter-Petrossian’s pre-election headquarters Tigran Paskevichian are among the detainees.

Levon Zurabyan, press secretary for the first President, was called to the police department of Yerevan's central Kentron district. Zurabyan was sent the summons yesterday. BOOK READING ENDED IN FAILURE
Today's book reading at Northern Avenue was doomed to failure. Only three people were able to read the books taken with them. The police “spoilt” reading and detained about 60 participants of the so-called “political” walking.

Minutes ago the police detained a citizen strolling at Liberty Square with his dog. When our journalists tried to find out whether the arrest was warranted the policemen threatened to take them into custody.
