“THE FAULT LIES WITH ALL OF US”
Support A1+!“The tragic events of March 1 are unprecedented in Armenia over the past 17 years of independence,” Secretary of the Republican Party (HHK) Samvel Nikoyan said with regard to the post-election developments.
“Everybody should draw conclusions on the latest events. It will be much easier to come out of this mess after concluding a general opinion. And if later on we try to recall the events we shall be under the impression that it all happened in another country.”
The secretary thinks the whole nation suffered a resounding defeat.
“Nobody should try to distort the reality. We are all guilty of the events. The authorities also have their part of fault. Some stratum of the society was discontent and we were well aware of it. All those years people have had problems which were left unaddressed. The opposition is also to be blamed as they led people in a wrong direction.
In the main, Samvel Nikoyan rules out any coup d'état in Armenia. “I exclude any “colourful” revolution. An estimated of 100 000 people marched in the capital to voice their protest even during Levon Ter-Petrossian's office but no revolution was fought.”
And yet the HHK Secretary thinks that if people don't rally in the streets it doesn’t mean that everything is all right in the country.
According to Samvel Nikoyan the society lacks fairness and confidence. “I think that both the government and the society must take steps to restore confidence among people and to establish a higher level of justice.
Samvel Nikoyan believes that after the president's inauguration on April 9 and formation of a new government, things will better in Armenia. The newly-formed government will do its utmost to avert such negative phenomena. “The authorities have always expressed readiness for cooperation. If they had met halfway I believe that the tragic events wouldn't have happened.”
