Dedicated 50 years of her life to books
Iskuhi Minasyan, 89, is sure that books will never lose their value no matter how much technology develops. She says being one of the 3 distinguished librarians of Armenia is the great appreciation of her long-running career.
Iskuhi Minasyan of Sisyan has spent 50 years of her life in libraries. She has worked as a librarian and director of children's and district libraries.
Iskuhi had always dreamed of becoming a librarian and remembers how she always used to go to the library in her native Akhlatyan village and follow-up on the librarian's activities. She also used to read a lot and always received appraisal.
The library often organized events and cooperated with its readers. Iskuhi is also content with her staff and has read about their activities in newspapers several times.
According to Iskuhi, the library lacked readers when it first opened. The fire that broke out in the library in 1953 destroyed 22,000 volumes of books and the library faced the issue of adding more books. The library solved the issue through donations and support from the Ministry of Culture and in a short amount of time, the library had over 27,000 volumes of books.
After she began to receive pension, Iskhui Minasyan didn't retire and founded a museum for participants of the Great Patriotic War from Sisyan. She collected the memoirs of 105 participants in a 6-volume book, which is keptp at the Museum of History in Sisyan. Many of the war participants have died, but their memories remain and Mrs. Iskuhi takes pride in them.
