Borodin Quartet is in Yerevan
The Borodin Quartet will again perform in Armenia after a six-year break. The concert is organized in the framework of Prospects of the 21st Century Festival.
"Armenia is not an ocean. The country is famous for Lake Sevan which is sacred for us," says Ruben Aharonyan, who joined the group in 1996.
The Quartet celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2010. On this occasion, Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan today awarded the musicians with a gold medal and congratulated Ruben Aharonyan on his 33rd birthday.
"I am glad that our compatriot, violin player Ruben Aharonyan, is a member of the Quartet. It is too difficult to award people who have already received the highest awards of the world," said Minister Poghosyan.
The Borodin Quartet is a string quartet founded in 1945 in Moscow by four Conservatoire students.
The Quartet includes Ruben Aharonyan (first violin), Andrey Abramenkov (second violin), Igor Naydin (viola) and Vladimir Balyshin (violoncello).
