No tractor to sow
This year, only 10% of the 120 hectare lands of the Hagvi village in the Lori region have been sowed. Meanwhile, during the years of the Soviet Union, villagers were mainly involved in growing potatoes and cigars.
Last year, the crop was destroyed by hail and agriculture was not profitable due to lack of irrigation and agricultural instruments. There is only one tractor and it doesn't work.
"We used to have three tractors and sold all of them. Now we are barely making ends meet. I travel tens of kilometers to bring a tractor from the neighboring villages to sow half a hectare of land," says Raffik Petrosyan.
Residents of Hagvi only see the future in cattle-breeding. Compared with last year, the number of cattle in the village has grown by 100. In general, there are 300 cattle, but it is also hard to sell the products. Retailers collect the milk from the highlands at an extremely low price-100 dram for one liter.
