V. Ayvazyan on M. Poghosyan’s Panama scandal: “Is it a bad thing to possess?” (video)
Republican Vardan Ayvazyan calls Panama offshore scandal, in which Armenia’s Chief Compulsory Enforcement Officer Mihran Poghosyan is involved, a show. A person, who has held a state sector position for more than 10 years, is involved in the international offshore scandal, because of which the prime minister of Iceland resigned. All this must be clarified by the tax inspectorate and the national security service, “And if Mihran Poghosyan has money abroad, maybe he has money also in the neighboring country, and also in his pocket, who is interested in it?” Vardan Ayvazyan is sincere- maybe that person has really opened a company abroad. Maybe the laws of that country give a chance to escape certain tax problems. Having accounts abroad doesn’t mean that he has violated laws, says Mr. Ayvazyan. But, Mr Poghosyan has reportedly developed his businesses abroad and transferred the amounts to Swiss banks. Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan is aware of the publications about the business empire of Mihran Poghosyan; the issue is presented to the ethics committee of the high ranking officials, “If elements of criminal activity are found, they will be sent to the relevant body, if other elements of an offense are found, they will be sent to another body. Only after that it will be possible to speak about legal consequences.”
