President Robert Kocharyan released a decree to start the 2006 autumn recruitment and demobilization.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian today participated in consultations with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, under the auspices of the Minsk Group co-chairs, in Moscow.

RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met his colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan – Vardan Oskanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov. The Foreign Ministers arrived in Moscow in order to reinitiate the negotiations about the settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk group.

On October 9 the delegation of Secretary of the National Security Council adjunct to the RA President, Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan will leave for Moscow.

On October 4, the presentation of the “Revival of Shoushi” Fund and sitting of the organization’s Board of Trustees took place in the town of Shoushi. Members of the Fund’s Board of Trustees headed by its Chairman, Mayor of the city of Yerevan Ervand Zakharian as well as NKR Prime-Minister Anoushavan Daniyelian, members of the republic’s Cabinet of Ministers and representatives of the leadership of the town of Shoushi took part in them.

On October 5, OSCE monitoring group, started the environmental assessment of the territories adjacent to the Azerbaijan-Karabakh borderline.

World Bank and International Financial Cooperation made a report on the Armenian business sphere. Today the report «Business - 2007» was presented to the RA Prime Minister.

Trayan Basescu, President of Romania, will arrive in Armenia on October 4 – 5 on official visit.

The Foreign Ministers’ Troika of the European Union and Armenia welcome the successful outcome of consultations on the European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan, started in November 2005.

On October 2 the delegation of RA Minister of Defense and Secretary of the National Security Council adjunct to the RA President Serge Sargsyan will leave for Greece on official duty.

A number of Armenian newspapers have published materials about the supposed visit of Russian criminal authority Vyacheslav Ivankov a.k.a. Yaponchik to Armenia. Some of them have even informed about the date of his arrival in Yerevan (September 9 or 14).

On September 29 French President Jacque Shirak will arrive in Armenia with his spouse on official visit.

On September 26, Nagorno Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Georgy Petrossian received Vice-Speaker of the House of Lords of the Great Britain's Parliament, Chairman of Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust Baroness Caroline Cox, who had arrived in Stepanakert with a delegation of British and American philanthropists.

On October 2 the delegation of the EU Three will arrive in Yerevan together with Foreign Minister of Finland Erkki Tuomioja.

Mr. and Mrs. Levon and Bella Aharonyans, Armenian philanthropists from Tehran, have been awarded the «St. Grigor the Illuminator» medal by Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Garegin II, for many years of beneficent activity.

On September 23 at about 01:30 p.m. the armistice on the Armenia-Azerbaijan borderline has been violated by the Azeris. The shot of a sniper in the direction of the Ijevan military basis killed Armenian soldier Garnik Melyan (b. 1964).

Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian participated in the 10th Bertelsmann Forum, held in Berlin, Germany, on September 22, 23.

In the PACE 2007 January session a report will be represented about honoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Armenia. On September 25-29 rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee Mikko Elo, George Columbier and Secretary Despina Chatsivasilu will be in Yerevan.

Today Robert Kocharyan received Attorney General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chayka. The sides discussed the reforms in the prosecution systems of both countries and the necessity to develop mutual cooperation.

In connection with the 15th anniversary of the RA Independence President Kocharyan has received congratulating messages from the Presidents of a number of countries and international structures.

RA President Robert Kocharyan received President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arkadi Ghoukasyan. Issues about the negotiation process over the Karabakh conflict were discussed. The sides also spoke about the social-economic situation in Karabakh.

The Deputy Commander of U.S. European Command (EUCOM), General William E. "Kip" Ward, visited Armenia September 19-20 as part of a regional familiarization trip. General Ward visited Georgia before arriving in Armenia, and will also travel to Azerbaijan.
