U.S. EMBASSY ANNOUNCES 2009 DIVERSITY VISA LOTTERY PROGRAM

Social

The U.S. Embassy Yerevan is pleased to announce that applications for the 2009 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery will be accepted beginning at noon (Washington time) on October 3, 2007 and ending at noon (Washington time) on December 2, 2007.

Applicants may access the electronic Diversity Visa Lottery entry form and instructions at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov during the registration period. Paper entries will not be accepted. Because of intense, worldwide interest in this exciting opportunity to live and work in the United States, applicants are strongly encouraged not to wait until the last week of the registration period to enter since heavy demand may result in website delays. No entries will be accepted after noon (Washington time) on December 2, 2007. Additionally, it should be noted that participation in the DV Lottery does not exclude applicants from qualifying for a tourist visa to the United States.

The annual DV Lottery program makes permanent residence visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. A computer-generated random lottery drawing chooses the people eligible to interview for a diversity visa. The more people who apply from Armenia, the more likely that a greater total number of people from Armenia will be selected. Please remember, however, that each person can enter only once per year. In the 2007 DV Lottery, 691 applicants from Armenia were chosen to interview for immigrant visas.

There have been several instances of groups or individuals attempting to defraud Diversity Visa Lottery entrants. Lottery entrants selected as winners in the Diversity Visa random drawing are notified by the Department of State’s Kentucky Consular Center. No other organization or company is authorized by the Department of State to notify Diversity Visa Lottery entrants of their winning entry. No money or fees are collected by the Department of State until the applicants come to the Embassy for their interview. Please see the following website for more information about potential Diversity Visa scams: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html

The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan will conduct a series of question and answer sessions for those interested in applying at the Embassy’s American Corners in October. The dates are as follows: Yerevan – October 11th at 14:00, Gyumri – October 15th at 15:00 and Vanadzor – October 23rd at 15:00.
