Now that Russia is subjected to economic pressures, the country attaches great importance to its relations with Turkey, says Turkologist Gevorg Petrosyan. The expert says Russia is trying to deepen its relations with Turkey and is looking for mutually beneficial ways of economic cooperation, which was apparent during the recent meeting between Vladiir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “The meeting focused on energy issues. They emphasized the need to lower gas prices, increase the volumes of gas and increase the level of trade. Finally, Russia and Turkey will build the first nuclear power plant in Turkey,” he said. Turkey and Russia are becoming important partners for each other. “Russia provides a significant portion of gas which Turkey needs so badly,” he added.
