OSCE CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR DIALOGUE AND CO-OPERATION

The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva, called today on all sides in Armenia to engage in dialogue to resolve the tension that surfaced following the 19 February presidential election.

HUNGER STRIKE STOPPED

In the Liberty Square Levon Ter-Petrosyan declared that as he had promised he would make numerous speeches and added that the announcements would be simple.

THE MARCH WAS HELD IN ONE DIRECTION

The march, which was organized in defense of the detained supporters by the united opposition in Yerevan streets, is over.

TER-PETROSYAN INVITES SERGE SARGSYAN AND ROBERT KOCHARYAN TO LIBERTY SQUARE

Appealing to Serge Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan declared in the Liberty Square: “I appeal to you, my friends. Why don’t you want to understand the situation in the country? If you have courage come to the Liberty Square and declare that you will resign and leave”.

Today at 5.00 a.m. a group of men in the masks tried to search Armen Sirunyan’s house. He is one of the active opposition actors.

TWO MARCHES AT THE SAME TIME

The rally in the Liberty Square is still going on. At the moment two different marches will begin in two different directions.

“Armenia, we all should go ahead and only ahead. Enemies are defeated, strangers are defeated, but we are together, go ahead Armenia”, declared the announcer, but the participants of the rally did not respond.

ARMEN HARUTYUNYAN MET PEOPLE ON HUNGER STRIKE

The working group, which was set up by the RA Human Rights Defender’s commission, met with the 10 people who went on huger strike on 24 February.

NEW DETENTIONS

Today, at 5 a.m. the employees of the RA Police intruded into Khachik Simonayan’s house, member of the “Republican” party and head of the Ter-Petrosyan’s pre-election headquarter in the region of Kotayk, and detained him.

A MAN ON HUNGER STRIKE SEWED HIS MOUTH

About 17 people are on huger strike at the Liberty Square demanding to recognize the results of the elections invalid.

“SURENYANTS APPEALED TO THE PUBLIC”

On 25 February at 21.30 police employees detained Suren Surenyants, born in 1975, at the Liberty Square and brought him Central Police Department for violating the law, organizing and conducting a public event.

THEY DEMAND OSCE TO BE UNBIASED

A group of common citizens and representative of NGO complained of the assessments of international observers on the results of the presidential elections in front of the OSCE Office in Yerevan today.

MARCH HAS NOT BEGAN YET BUT THE SQUARE IS CROWDED

It was almost 11 a.m. but the Liberty Square was already crowded. Before the organizers of the march appeared on the platform, the police declared that the march was illegal and demanded to leave the Square.

Ter-Petrosyan’s pre-election headquarter informs “A1+” that Garnik Margaryan, chairman of the ”Fatherland and Honour” party and Goris Mayor Samvel Harutyunyan are detained.

During the presidential election of February 19, 2008, Armenia underwent a recurrent ordeal on the way to democracy. We can overcome it only with joint efforts as unification will enable us to take up interior, socio-economic and exterior challenges.

CROWDS MULTIPLY

The recurrent march of the united oppositionists drew to an end minutes ago. Thousands of people marched to Republican Square along the central streets of Yerevan with appeals, “Join the Movement!” and “Levon!”

Armenia's First President addressed the rally at Liberty Square today. “Many of you continue the struggle of 1988. Today we pursue the same aim. We struggle for the sake of the Republic of Armenia, democracy, free market economy and liberation of Artsakh,” he said.

“The house of Samvel Gevorgian, member of the “Karabakh” Committee, is being searched at present,” the leader of the Conservative Party of Armenia Michael Hairapetian stated at Liberty Square minutes ago.

SMBAT AIVAZIAN DENIES TORTURE

At about 9.30 a.m. on February 25 the Office of Human Rights Defender received a report that the police inflict torture on Smbat Aivazyan. The working group set up by the instruction of Armenia's Ombudsman Armen Harutiunian, visited the central police department and had a private talk with Smbat Aivazian.
