“POLITICAL DIALOGUE IS THE ONLY WAY OUT”
Support A1+!“I understand that the situation at the moment is rather complicated. The election results caused the opposition leaders’ discontent. Political dialogue is the only way out of the situation”, stated the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Ilka Kanerva.
Journalists asked whether the OSCE Chairman-in-Office was aware of the violations, riggings and political detentions in the RA before election, on the election’s day and post election period. Mr Kanerva ensured that he was well-aware of the incidents on the election’s day, during the pre-election period and said: “The political majority should follow the law and respect it. I consider that this is the only way which will bring success”.
Ilka Kanerva pointed out that he took into consideration OSCE observers’ preliminary report: “I pity that the final report will be ready in two months after the election, but the preliminary report contains both negative and positive elements”. The OSCE Chairman-in-Office noted that the final report would be ready in April and said: “We will follow the election developments. I am convinced that the OSCE observers will carry out their job properly”. The OSCE Chairman-in-Office also mentioned he was aware that Ter-Petrosyan’s headquarter had submitted 300 appeals for the re-tabulation of election results at some election precincts, but only two of them had re-tabulated. Mr Kanerva confirmed the cases of election riggings and noted he had had discussed it with the RA officials: “The problem is that how the riggings will reflect on the final results. This issue will be involved in the final report of the OSCE observers”.
The OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ilka Kanerva and the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanyan discussed two main issues during today’s meeting – the RA presidential election and the NKR problem and possible outcomes. Ilka Kanerva underlined that the OSCE was willing to contribute to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and to negotiate with the two presidents.
