PACE opens spring session: Erdogan and Davutoğlu are in Strasbourg
A debate on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue will be one of the highlights of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will take place in Strasbourg from April 11 to 15, 2011.
Several prominent religious figures will take the floor. Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will address PACE delegates on April 11 and 13 respectively. Armenian delegates will have an opportunity to ask questions to Turkish officials.
The agenda also includes debates on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Georgia, the lowering of the voting age to 16, rural women in Europe, over-indebtedness of states and education against violence at school. The debate on the death penalty in Council of Europe member and observer states will feature a statement by Federico Mayor Zaragoza, President of the International Commission against the Death Penalty.
Before that, PACE President Mevlüt Çavusoglu will present the session agenda and answer journalists' questions. Çavusoglu announced that the PACE Subcommittee on Karabakh will resume its work during the spring session.
