Considerable drop in ticket sales to Yerevan (video)
The four-day war on the Karabakh front line has reduced the number of tourists visiting Armenia, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan said on April 20. “In April, ticket sales to Yerevan dropped by 23 percent,” he said adding that tourists consider Armenia to be a dangerous country. “Tourists do not pay attention to the fact that the skirmishes take place in Karabakh, not in Armenia, that it is the border communities which are shelled. They just read that 'Smerch' and 'Grad' multiple rocket launchers are being used on the border. They do not where Karabakh is and what is going on there. They only think about the war and avoiding visiting Armenia,” Mr Adibekyan said. The sociologist says there are various indicators determining a country’s security level which are based on different components. “If by saying security you understand that one should be able to freely stroll in the city in the evening hours, then Armenia ranks 23rd among 162 countries. But if we consider other indicators, such as the rate of sexual assault, rape, robbery, number of population, then we shall go down by several points," he said.
