The election administration appears well-prepared to conduct the 19 February presidential election. On 9 February, the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the contest expired; no candidate withdrew. Nine candidates will participate in the contest.

One of the cars which was arrested in Levon Ter-Petrosyan headquarter and belonged to the member of the “Republican” party Khachik Simonyan was released.

Today the RA First President, presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan continued his pre-election meetings in Agarak, Meghri and Kapan towns.
ARTHUR BAGHDSARYAN REFUSED TO COMMENT
“Bisharyan has already explained”, said Arthur Baghdasaryan after the meeting with doctors, avoiding any comment on the announcement, allegedly the latter had a mutual agreement with Serge Sargsyan, that he would win in the first round and pass the second round, where Serge Sargsyan would win, and by this step the version that the elections were rigged would be rejected.
ARAM KARAPEYAN SUPPORTS LEVON TER-PETROSYAN
Today the “New Times” party announced that the party supported Levon Ter-Petrosyan. The decision was made during the session of the party’s board based on the voting results.
IS ARF OPPOSITION OR POWER?
Armen Rustamyan, Head of the ARF pre-election headquarters, member of the ARF Supreme Body met with the NGOs, representing women, since the ARF presidential candidate and member of the ARF Bureau Vahan Hovhannisyan was unable to meet them.
OBSERVERS TO ARRIVE
A 27-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by John Prescott (United Kingdom, SOC), will visit Armenia from 18 to 20 February 2008 to observe the presidential election together with observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and the European Parliament.
BENEFIT OF SERZH SARKISSIAN
The presentation of the book “Nagorno Karabakh in Light of International Right and World Police” by academician Yuri Barseghov took place in Yerevan on February 16. The presentation turned into Serzh Sarkissian’s benefit and was fully devoted to the Prime Minister.

COURT DISMISSES NZhK APPEAL
On February 12 the Appellate Court of the Republic of Armenia dismissed the appeal of New Times Party (NZhK) Leader Aram Karapetian.

Presidential candidate, Leader of the National-Democratic Union (AZhM)Vazgen Manukian said today in the visible future Armenia should not consider membership with the NATO, since it will not enhance the country’s security. Vazgen Manukyan says he respects the organisation and is for close cooperation but membership is wrong at this stage.
