The issue about the situation of women in Armenia will probably be heard in the next PACE session. But it will be represented not separately, but as part of the report discussing the situation of women in South Caucasus. According to Hermine Naghdalyan, member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, in this connection the situation is not very different in the three South Caucasian countries.

Samed Seidov, head of the Azeri delegation to PACE answers the questions of “A1+.”

At present the Azeri delegates are approaching the deputies in the corridors and collecting their signatures in support of their project - to make a report “on setting a deliberate fire by the Armenian side in the occupied territories.”

The PACE deputies are preparing for a campaign. The youth campaign “All are different, all are equal” will initiate in Strasbourg on June 29. Terry Devis, CoE Secretary General invited the deputies to participate in it. The youth campaign which will last till the 2007 autumn has the following slogan, “Diversity, human rights and participation.”

The USA interests differ from those of Europe. A brilliant testify to this are the PACE current discussions of the report on “Illegal intergovernmental transfers of suspected secret prisoners and prisons in the CoE member-countries.”

A number of youth organizations condemn the inhospitable attitude towards the All Armenian Catholicos Garegin II in Istanbul. Today the representatives of the youth organization of the Republican Party and “Nikol Aghbalyan” Students’ Union of the Dashnaktsutyun Party informed about it

“It is nonsense,” qualified Tigran Torosyan, RA NA Speaker, head of the Armenian delegation to the PACE referring to Azeri delegate Hajiev’s questions in connection with the disputed burnt areas by the Armenian side. According to Torosyan they arouse negative emotions among the deputies.

The delegation of the PACE sub-committee on cultural affairs was expected to visit the region in late May or in early June must the visit was postponed. The visit will probably take place in autumn, Stepan Demirchyan, member of the Armenian delegation to PACE and leader of the party “Justice” informed.

“Monitoring can’t stop until Armenia and Azerbaijan have settled the conflict”, René van der Linden, PACE President told the “A1+” correspondent. According to him, this is a problematic issue not only for the CoE, but also for the other international structures.

PACE summer session will start at 06:00 PM sharp Yerevan time. Right away it is very quiet in the session hall. The Parliamentarians are participating in the sessions of the groups. Our deputies too are participating in the meetings which can last more than four hours.

By the decision of the Georgian borders protection department the number of the border points in the Georgian part of the Armenian-Georgian border has been increased. A new point has been opened in the village of Kalinino, region Ninotsminda.

On June 26-30 the PACE summer session will convene in Strasbourg. During the session no issues directly connected with Armenia will be discussed. Nevertheless, the name of our country will be mentioned during the discussions of other issues, namely, the freedom of speech in the member-countries of the PACE or the questions to the Prime Minister of Turkey.

According to him, despite anything the Karabakh conflict must not be treated that primitively.

“The amendments to the Electoral Code are meant to contribute to the reduction of the number of electoral fabrications”, announced Shavarsh Kocharyan, the head of the National Democratic Party administration in club “Pastark”.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza who is already the US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group represented the main principles or the pack of offers which is to be considered during the negotiations over the Karabakh conflict.

NA Speaker Tigran Torosyan wants to resign from the post of the PACE RA delegation head as he thinks there are “certain problems the solution of which is connected with his stay in Armenia.”

Today President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arkadi Ghoukasyan sent a message to the members of the international scientific conference titled “Nagorno Karabakh Republic: past, present and future” which opened today in the capital of the country, Stepanakert.
