Why did Pashinyan leave NA hall?
Nikol Pashinyan, a lawmaker of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) has explained on his Facebook account the reasons for his behavior at the parliament sitting on Feb. 26. “During today’s parliament sitting, Republican Party MP Margarit Yesayan offered to observe a moment’s silence in memory of the March 2008 victims. Everyone in the hall stood up. I left the hall as the sitting was attended by people who stand behind the March 1 deaths, people who ordered to kill the citizens of the Republic of Armenia during the deadly post-election clashes on March 1, 2008. I found it disrespectful to commemorate the victims with them,” wrote Mr. Pashinyan. For her part, Margarit Yesayan wrote on her Facebook page, “While the National Assembly was discussing the opposition’s initiative on creating an ad hoc committee to look into the March 1 clashes I offered to observe a moment of silence for the victims. Everybody stood up, but my former and present colleague Nikol Pashinyan, who simply left the hall. I ask Pashinyan not to use of the deadly events as a tool for his image.”
