“We are often not able to understand problems of Syrian Armenian children” (video)
The Armenian representation of Save the Children organization together with the representation of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), today carried out Children's Leadership Conference. The topic of the conference was “Promotion of integration of Syrian displaced children and their families in Armenia”, which was based on the extracurricular meetings. Arsen Stepanyan, Director of the Armenian Office of Save the Children organization, summing up the conference, told “A1+” that Syrian Armenian children have such problems, which we are often not able to understand. “When the adults are asked what problems they have, they note unemployment or housing issues, but the children note such things, which we haven’t even thought about, which will be important, for example, getting music education or getting a chance to communicate with the children of the same age more,” he noted, adding that some parents also put forward issue of psychological assistance. “The children, who came later, had seen war; overcoming stress is very hard for them. They may remain silent, without realizing that they have such a problem, but we can see, the parents can see,” said Arsen Stepanyan. “Child for a child” extracurricular meetings have been organized at four schools in Yerevan (No 21 school after Al. Shirvanzade, No 71 after N. Stepanyan, No 67 after Y. Charents and No 14 after Nar-Dos).
