Former employees of Nairit chemical plant are starting an open-ended sit-in outside the Government Building on Thursday, June 16, demanding immediate payment of their due wages. “We will not leave the area until they pay off all our wages,” Anush Harutyunyan, a former spokesperson for the chemical plant, told A1+. Earlier, the group had been promised to be paid the wages of 18-24 months until Wednesday but yesterday they learnt that the money had not been transferred to their accounts. The reason was that the employees had reached an agreement with the plant management to sign a waiver from penalties and fines for delayed salaries. Over 500 employees of Nairit had gathered outside the plant since morning waiting for the agreements but no one has shown them the documents. Many employees believe that the management simply wants to gain time as they do not have money to pay off the debt.
