Civil activist says actual transportation fare is AMD 70 (video)
The proposed changes to the public transport costs are politically motivated, say civil activists. Economist Davit Gevorgyan claims that the actual transportation fare is AMD 70. The group does not agree with the recently published figures, according to which passengers are to pay AMD 207 for a bus ticket, AMD 252 in diesel buses and AMD 196 for buses fueled by natural gas. Civil activists claim that the quality of transport services deteriorated in the capital following the failed price hike in summer, and the municipality does not take any measures to improve the sector. “They should introduce systemic changes to provide good-quality services. Why should I pay AMD 250 or AMD 400 for a bad service?” Gevorgyan said. Activist Ani Kaghinyan added that the fare should not be raised from the current AMD 100. She also complained of the inactivity of the Transport Commission which, she says, was set up to protect the interests of the Municipality and authorities.”
