Lawyers say 'innocent man kept in custody for five years'
An innocent man has been held in custody for five months, signal lawyers. “An innocent man accused of a heavy crime has been unlawfully kept in detention since November 22, 2013,” says Inessa Petrosyan, a lawyer of Vachik Gharibyan who is convicted in a murder plot of Artavazd Khandanyan and Papin Vardanyan killed outside Cigaronne Ltd 12 years ago. Talking to Pastinfo news agency, the lawyer said on January 17 when detention was chosen as a precautionary measure against her client, the investigative body said it was the last extension as ‘there was not any evidence proving the Gharibyan's guilt, hence the detention could not be extended any longer.’
