The Constitutional Court of Armenia announced on verdict its ruling on the disputed provisions of the mandatory funded pension law. The verdict has caused varied responses in difference circles. In fact, it was so complicated that even the claimant abstained from drawing immediate conclusions. The appeal was submitted to the CC by the Dem am (I am against) pressure group and four opposition parties in parliament who requested the Court to find the mandatory component of the law as unconstitutional. They say they need to study the CC ruling before drawing conclusions. Lawyer Artak Zeynalyan says the CC has fully upheld the claim, while ARF-Dashnaktsutyun MP Artsvik Minasyan says he needs at least two days to make a final conclusion. “Should the government feel any political responsibility, it will resign right away,” said Naira Zohrabyan, a lawmaker of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). When the Chairman of the Constitutional Court was reading out the verdict, members of the pressure group were waiting outside the court. “They told a lie when they said they had worked on the law for 10 years. Now I doubt that they will be able to amend it in a short time,” said Sevak Tsaturyan.
