Today we should protect our culture from the Ministry of Culture, says publicist Karine Hakobyan. “The Ministry has to understand that its mission is to preserve our cultural objects. The rules of the game should be reviewed,” she said. Karine Hakobyan is hopeful that the Ministry will consider the opinion of citizens, intellectuals and experts and ban the construction of a café near Garni Temple. “In European countries you can come across cafes near all monuments,” says sculptor Ferdinand Arakelyan. The sculptor is especially surprised at the behavior of the village head. “Why is he so interested in the construction? Garni Canyon has turned into a landfill, with stones falling down every now and then but he [the headman] does not care about it.” Mr. Arakelyan says the construction of a café should be grounded.
