All data will be destroyed after the state of emergency, including personal data - minister (video) (video)

The National Assembly is discussing the drafts adopted on March 30 with the first for the second reading and for full adoption. Parliament is currently considering a package of amendments to the Law on Emergency Legal Status and the Law on Electronic Communication proposing to intervene in the state of emergency caused by an epidemic, to protect personal data, privacy and family privacy, freedom of communication and privacy rights.

The main speaker, Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan, first said that yesterday he was following heated discussions on this package on social media, which was not accepted by the public. To the critical approaches Rustam Badasyan answered that Armenian citizens take their rights and freedoms seriously. "It is a happy fact that they are not ready to give up any rights and freedoms unless there is a proper explanation why they should be restricted, even in the state of emergency. This means that we must make every effort to persuade citizens why we need some restrictions on basic rights and freedoms during an epidemic,” Rustam Badasyan said. The member of the Government emphasized that these restrictions apply only to an epidemic-based emergency, after which no restrictions will apply. According to him, no new citizen data is being collected and processed. "All aggregated data will be subject to destruction after the state of emergency, that is not only personal but also individual data. This does not in any way imply content disclosure of the telephone conversation, only the facts of making and placing the call are important,” he explained.
