Gurgen Margaryan would turn 34 today
Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, who was brutally murdered by Azeri officer Ramil Safarov in Budapest during a NATO-hosted training event, would become 34 on Sept. 26, 2012.
Margaryan's relatives and friends, as well as people shocked by Azerbaijan's cruel step, today gathered at Yerablur Pantheon to commemorate the assassinated officer.
"We could not imagine that we would live such sad days," said Lusya Poghosyan, the mother of Margaryan's friend.
The participants of the event once again condemned the extradition and glorification of Ramil Safarov.
Heritage Party Chairman Raffi. Hovannisian was also at Yerablur Pantheon to pay tribute to Gurgen Margaryan.
While undergoing instruction at NATO's courses in Budapest in 2004, Azerbaijani senior lieutenant Safarov killed Armenian army serviceman Gurgen Markarian, who, as he claimed, had insulted the Azerbaijani flag. In April 2006 a court in Budapest sentenced Safarov to life imprisonment. On August 31, 2012, he was extradited to Baku, where he was pardoned and set free. Safarov had served more than eight years of his term.
Later the same day, Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan announced that Yerevan was suspending diplomatic relations and all official contacts with Hungary in response to Budapest's decision to repatriate Safarov.
