Hungary sends message to Armenian MFA
Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi sent a letter to his Armenian counterpart last week stating that the extradition of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov was not targeted at Armenia and should not be viewed as an offense against the Armenian people, RFE/RL's Armenian service (Azatutyun.am) reports.
The Hungarian official also said that the extradition of the killer sentenced to life imprisonment by a Hungarian court fully complied with international norms and the practice of his country.
Mr. Martonyi expressed regret over Armenia's decision to suspend diplomatic relations with Hungary. Further, he referred to the centuries-old friendship between the two countries and Christian values that have united the two peoples for centuries.
"Severance of diplomatic relations may have serious consequences which do not stem from the interests of Armenia," János Martonyi said in the letter.
In conclusion, he urged Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian to unite efforts to restore the diplomatic relations between the two countries in question.
