PACE President says situation in Armenia still bothersome
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh should not revive its work, PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon said at a press conference when answering a question of an Armenian journalist.
The PACE President expressed his support to the OSCE Minsk Group which deals with the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. However, he stressed it was his personal opinion, and the Bureau is to render its final decision on the issue.
As reported earlier, Jean-Claude Mignon is going to meet with the heads of Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations to discuss the Karabakh issue.
In reply to A1+'s question concerning the situation in Armenia, Mr. Mignon said, "I cannot say that see great changes. The situation in Armenia is still bothersome."
The PACE President said he was going to discuss the situation with the PACE co-rapporteurs on Armenia.
"I know that you are not pleased with my answer but I cannot say more at present. We shall continue at the next sitting," added Mr. Mignon.
Jean-Claude Mignon (EPP/CD) from France was elected PACE President in January 2012, taking over the position from Mevlüt Çavusoglu (Turkey, EDG). He is the 26th President of the Assembly since 1949 and the first French person to hold this office in 23 years.
The summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe kicked off on June 25. A delegation of the Armenian National Assembly headed by Davit Harutyunyan is participating at the Strasbourg-hosted session that will last till June 29. The delegation includes Hermine Naghdalyan, Naira Zohrabyan, Armen Rustamyan and Zaruhi Postanjyan.
