“Artsakh people fight for ideas”
The "Sociometer" research center conducted a survey in Artsakh at the threshold of local presidential elections.
The polls conducted among 946 adults aimed to reveal the expectations of the population, the level of political activeness and the rating of the candidates Aharon Adikeyan, the head of the research center, told a conference on Monday.
Most of the respondents were mainly interested in job openings, pensions and social benefits.
"About 30 percent of Artsakh residents are unemployed today. The second question referred to housing and infrastructure construction. While the roads of republican importance are in a good condition, those in the villages are in a terrible state," said Mr. Adibekyan.
The people of Atsakh are also interested in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. The panic is still felt in frontier regions. About 5,8% of the respondents said they want a quick solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he stressed.
The sociologist says the more people are settling in Artsakh these days. "The number of immigrants has increased. The birthrate has risen. "
The survey was conducted by the order of Free Artsakh Party.
Speaking about the upcoming president elections in Artsakh Mr. Adibekyan said three non-partisan candidates had been nominated for the position, who are going to compete with acting President Bako Sahakyan. They are General Vitaly Balasanyan, an MP in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Arkadi Soghomonyan, deputy director of State Agricultural Academy's Stepanakert branch and Valery Khachatryan, former head of Artsakh parliament's general department
The presidential polls in Karabakh are slated for July 19, 2012.
"The main struggle will be between Bako Sahakyan and Vitaly Balasanyan," Mr. Adibekyan said adding that Artsakh people will only fight for ideas, rather than for office.
