Francophonie contributes to the closer cultural cooperation between peoples living on different continents, but cherishing the same values, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at Armenian State Pedagogical University on Monday.

The University is hosting a two-day scientific conference within the framework of the Francophonie Days in Armenia. Armenian FM made his speech in French in honour of France's Ambassador to Armenia Henry Renaud, who was present at the event.

"Armenia attaches great importance to Francophonie, as an important forum for intercultural dialogue, as it provides greater opportunities for cooperation," said Minister Edward Nalbandian.

For his part, Mr Henry Renaud said he was happy to hear his Armenian counterpart speaking French.

"We have signed an agreement promoting the spread of the French language in Armenian schools and universities. Also, Mr Serzh Sargsyan has proposed opening a French-Armenian lyceum in Armenia," said Mr Henry Renaud.
