The local self-government elections scheduled to take place tomorrow are the "prelude" to the upcoming nationwide elections, and the hottest struggle will be between the incumbent and former mayors of Hrazdan.

According to "Heritage" MP Armen Martirosyan, holding free and fair elections is out of the question, if all the administrative resources are used for one candidate.

"Our party's members will be in Hrazdan tomorrow to try to oversee the process of holding free and fair elections," Martirosyan told "A1+".

According to him, tomorrow the authorities will be so rational that they won't allow any clashes to take place.

The ARF-D isn't supporting any candidate in the elections for mayor of Hrazdan.

"We support the idea of a fair election. That is more important than supporting any candidate," said ARF-D MP Lilit Galstyan.

The ARF-D representative says there haven't been any fair elections in Armenia throughout the past twenty years.

"The social factor has been significant. When 40 percent of the population is in poverty, that allows me to think that it is used during all elections. We have to be able to work on raising citizens' level of awareness of their rights."

Taking into account that the local self-government elections will be followed by the parliamentary elections, Galstyan mentioned that the Armenian government should be ready to fulfill their pledge to hold fair elections.

Speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov yesterday toured Hrazdan. "I hope the elections will be free and fair. I don't think there is a tense atmosphere in Hrazdan. It was an election campaign, and it is obvious that there had to be criticism from both sides."

According to Eduard Sharmazanov, the corresponding state bodies are in charge of holding free and fair elections in Hrazdan, as well as other communities.

Sharmazanov wished a fair struggle to the incumbent mayor, HHK member Arman Danielyan and Armenian National Congress (HAK) representative Sasun Mikayelyan.
