Jacques Chirac recognized as guilty
A court in Paris today sentenced former French President Jacques Chirac to two years of conditional imprisonment. Jacques Chirac is charged with creating 28 phony workplaces during his years as mayor of Paris in 1990-95.
The court recognized him as guilty for appropriating money belonging to the public and misusing confidence and powers. The 79-year old political figure hadn't shown up to the trial due to health problems.
Earlier, Jacques Chirac had touched upon this trial and had said it was important for democracy and that he was an average citizen. Nevertheless, he declared that the trial would show that he "had not committed any immoral and dishonest act."
Chirac's lawyer informed that the former President would decide on appealing the decision or not in the evening.
