The Armenian National Assembly today put to the vote the draft laws discussed during yesterday's parliament sitting. Before the vote, NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan had to silence a few deputies who were talking aloud.

"How delighted you get when something goes wrong!" said Abrahamyan.

To sober up the deputies, the parliament speaker ordered all MPs to participate in the commemoration ceremony for the victims of the October 27, 1999 parliamentary carnage due to take place in the parliament yard on Thursday.

Later, the parliament proceeded to discuss the amendments to the RA Law on Education roposed by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun.

MP Ruzanna Arakelyan spoke againts government's proposal that teachers should work 16 hours a week.

"Many teachers work part-time today and their salary does not exceed 40 000 drams. Meanwhile, the salaries of administrative workers amount to 120-130 000 drams. Teachers should work at least 12 hours to fill the gap," said the ARF-D MP.

"Administrative staff carries out serious work at school," Heghine Bisharyan, Head of Country of Law (OYK) faction, said in reply. "We put the stress on their financial support. They try to maintain the psychological atmosphere at school at the highest level. It is not fair to make them work for 16 hours. Instead, they can work part-time," she said.

The National Assembly continues its work.
