During the official visit to Romania, RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Daniel Funeriu, after which the two ministers gave a joint press conference.

During the press conference, Romanian journalists asked the Armenian minister how he would interpret the Romanian President's statement in Baku, the response of RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan and whether Ashotyan views that statement as an impediment for the Armenian-Romanian cooperation in education and science.

In response, Armen Ashotyan said Armenian-Romanian relations in education and science are not based on economic and geopolitical interests, but similarities and commonalities of civilizations. According to the OSCE Minsk Group's approaches, the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is based on three fundamental principles, that is, self-determination of nations, a peaceful resolution and territorial integrity. Taking advantage of the right to stand up for its own destiny, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh made their decision and no opinion that goes against that decision, the position of the international community and is expressed to get on the good side of the Azerbaijani authorities can have an impact on the fate of the people of Karabakh.

Let us remind that the President of Romania had announced that Nagorno-Karabakh is a part of Azerbaijan and that issue must be solved based on the principle of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
