Deputies beat policemen?
President Serzh Sargsyan is said to have convened a consultation in the Central headquarters of the Republican Party (HHK) to discuss the March 3 incident between Heritage MPs and policemen.
HHK Spokesman Edward Sharmazanov today dismissed the rumors labeling them as "absurd."
"It was a regular meeting with no extraordinary issue involved in the agenda," said Sharmazanov.
Regarding the incident, Sharmazanov said, "The videos posted on Armenian websites show that it was deputies who used violence against the police. I am against any illegitimate step - be it taken by the police, deputies or ordinary citizen."
According to the HHK spokesman no one, including Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan, was beaten during the incident.
"I heard Mrs. Bakhshyan speaking to her Republican colleague Hovhannes Sahakyan. She said no one had attacked and beaten her during the jolting. "
Three MPs of the Heritage party, Armen Martirosyan, Anahit Bakhshyan and Zaruhi Postanjyan were reportedly involved in a jostling with police as they were attending a protest of street vendors outside the government building on March 3.
