"Authorities demonstrate inhumane attitude towards political prisoners"
Armenia's Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted People has issued a statement slamming the authorities' inhumane attitude towards the political prisoners.
"After the presidential elections of 2008, Armenian prisons became filled with political prisoners. Many of them lost their loved ones while serving prison sentences.
To date, all of them have been allowed to attend the funerals of their relatives with the exception of Sargis Hatspanyan whose father died in France.
The mother of political prisoner Shmavon Galstyan died on January 11, 2011. The Committee extends condolences on the death and announces that Armenian leadership, guided by vindictiveness, decided to treat the political prisoners in an inhumane way, allowing Galstyan to be present at the funeral for two hours.
The Committee calls on the authorities to leave aside their revengefulness and to allow the political prisoner to properly farewell his mother," reads the statement.
