H. Abrahamyan: “Do you want to live like royals?”
Chairman of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan told journalists today that he will meet with the "Heritage" Party to persuade Raffi Hovhannisian to take back the draft law on "Armenia's recognition of the NKR's independence"; otherwise, according to the NA Charter, Hovik Abrahamyan must put the draft law up for a vote during the upcoming four-day session.
"We want to solve the issue through peaceful negotiations and wouldn't like to take any step that may impede those negotiations," said Mr. Abrahamyan.
According to Abrahamyan, the NA will convene a special session and recognize the NKR's independence, if the majority of the National Assembly decides that the de jure recognition of the NKR's independence is necessary after discussions with Serzh Sargsyan.
Hovik Abrahamyan also said there might be a need for Armenia's recognition of the NKR's independence after the Serzh Sargsyan-Ilham Aliyev meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Astrakhan.
During today's session, the NA Chairman visited the rooms for journalists at the NA after the renovation of the National Assembly along with Galust Sahakyan and NA Chief of Staff Gegham Gharibjanyan.
Yesterday journalists at the NA had complained about the conditions, stating that they felt like they were in a glass cage and had no way of recording or taping the session.
"When I say all issues will be solved, they will be solved. Why do you think that we are trying to create obstacles for you? We can remove the glass, if the experts allow it. It is a matter of security," said Hovik Abrahamyan.
He was surprised by one of the journalists' claim that it was hard to come down from the third to the second floor to talk with deputies. "Do you want to live like royals? That's your problem," said the NA Chairman.
