“Society must be prepared for victories”
"I have never highlighted the role of superpowers in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict but I attach great importance to the opinion of the international community," member of the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary group Arthur Aghabekyan told A1+.
The ARF Dashnaktsutyun member thinks that each country sees the settlement of the Karabakh conflict through the prism of its interests, hence Armenia should rely on its resources and wishes.
"I do not think that the international community will tolerate annihilation or displacement of a nation that wants to live on its homeland," says the statesman and offers his version for the conflict settlement.
"We must prepare the society for long-term future otherwise the gossips about vague compromises and concessions will force ordinary villagers, drivers, farmers, builders to make calculations based on these compromises. We need to clearly articulate our position.
Even if the international community holds an unfavourable stance on the Karabakh issue the Armenian people should be informed of it in due time.
On the other hand, if the conflict is settled through compromises, we must prepare the public for it to make the conflict settlement painless for people.
If the society does not accept the compromises the authorities should draw conclusions. I don't think that our authorities will bind the compromises to the public against their will.
Mr. Aghabekyan thinks Armenia is on the wrong path and is waiting for some benefactor or foreign investor to thrive the country.
"We must continue to work and be ready for new triumphs. By saying triumph I do not mean recruiting new servicemen or digging new trenches. I mean building new houses, villages, factories, investing money and prospering our country for future generations. People must be confident of their future," he concluded.
