Call from Yerevan to Strasbourg
On January 28, Chairman of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan had a telephone conversation with newly elected president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Movlut Cavusoglu.
First, Chairman of the RA National Assembly congratulated Movlut Cavusoglu on his election as president of the PACE. Taking into account the fact that the Turkish political figure is the first from the region to take the high-profile office, Mr. Abrahamyan called on him to show sensible, reasonable and balanced position on issues concerning the region.
During the conversation, M. Cavusoglu informed the Chairman of the RA National Assembly H. Abrahamyan that on January 26, the Azerbaijani APA news agency had ascribed a number of statements that he had not made. Cavusoglu assured that the statements were a result of poor translation and the misinterpretation of the Azerbaijani journalist.
During the conversation, the sides also exchanged views on the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations without preconditions. The interlocutors also discussed the possibility of the newly elected PACE President's visit to Armenia, as reported by the department of relations with the public and media of the RA National Assembly.
