CC went to consultation room
Policemen have surrounded the Constitutional Court since 9 a.m. Today the CC will discuss whether the Turkey-Armenia Protocols correspond to the RA Constitution or not. Apparently, there has not been any discussion. Serzh Sargsyan's representative who had to present the Protocols in court did not show up to court. President of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan announced that all documents are available and the Constitutional Court has been presented with the open letter of the ARF and its 13 political parties against the Turkey-Armenia Protocols. Harutyunyan decided that the issue would be discussed through written procedures in the consultation room.
The issue is being discussed and the time of releasing the decision will be informed. Head of the ARF faction Vahan Hovhannisyan believes that the attachment of the statement by political parties participating in yesterday's rally to the case is evidence. "I think that this is a very serious document and it will be impossible to circumvent or not take it into account," Mr. Hovhannisyan told "A1+".
Taking into account the fact that the CC has three chances to say that the Protocols either correspond, don't correspond or partially correspond to the Constitution, Hovhannisyan said: "I think that it is impossible to accept that the Protocols completely correspond to the Constitution."
Vahan Hovhannisyan believes that the CC can reach an objective verdict if desired. Even if the Protocols are partially upheld, the National Assembly can't ratify them in that form.
Representatives of other political parties looked more disappointed after coming out of the CC. "Nothing happened inside. It is still strange that the time in the consultation room must be uncertain," said representative of "Heritage" party Stepan Safaryan.
Leader of New Times party Aram Karapetyan says that the CC will not dare to recognize the Turkey-Armenia Protocols as anti-constitutional. "Although everything points to that, the CC will try to show that the document is not integrative from the political angle."
Leader of the People's Party Tigran Karapetyan says that the Republicans are "confused" after yesterday's rally against the Turkey-Armenia Protocols. "In any case, our letter has been attached to the case. The Constitutional Court must understand that its decision is going to be historical."
