Final report on March 1 to be released
Andranik Kocharyan, member of the disbanded Fact-Finding Group leading an investigation into the events of March 1, says that he is not surprised to see that the OSCE rejected "Heritage" faction deputy Larisa Alaverdyan's draft of creating a new ad hoc National Assembly committee to lead an investigation into the events and motives of March 1-2 in the NA agenda.
"It has been shown that the creation of a new parliamentary committee is nonsensical. If the authorities wished to reveal the murders, they wouldn't disband the Fact-Finding Group, which worked more effectively and was more accepted by the public," Andranik Kocharyan told "A1+" today.
Kocharyan believes that even the format of the Fact-Finding Group permitted to reveal the events of March 1 in their entirety. "After the first report, there came a point when the authorities realized that they couldn't continue that way because they could have given incorrect responses to the questions that wouldn't be in favor of the state structures."
Mr. Kocharyan deemed it necessary to mention that there was only one element missing in the activity of the Fact-Finding Group, that is, the participation of international experts that would not give the authorities the opportunity to terminate the activity of the Fact-Finding Group with nonsensical speculations.
In any case, Mr. Kocharyan welcomes the efforts of "Heritage" to raise the issue of March 1 frequently, but at the same time he is sure that the NA will reject any proposal to reveal the events of March 1.
He recalled the activities of the ad hoc committee headed by Samvel Nikoyan and the committee's conclusion. "They wanted to create a document and not answer the questions that were faced with."
Mr. Kocharyan also recalled that the report of the Fact-Finding Group had approached the chain of revelation of the marksmen.
Kocharyan doesn't consider it by chance that the relatives of the 10 victims of March 1 are in defense of Nikol Pashinyan and are holding protests at the court yard because there is no legitimate body involved in revealing the murders of their sons.
"The more the authorities delay the revelation of these murders, the more suspicions there will be. It's better for them to pull themselves together. March 1 is the first day of spring, but the Armenian people saw murders on that day and they will never forget that. No matter how painful the events of March 1 are for the most high-profile authorities, they must be revealed."
Former members of the Fact-Finding Group Andranik Kocharyan and Seda Safaryan are currently working on the final report on the events of March 1. "Our report is based on facts. It will try not to cause the authorities to ask questions as much as possible and that is what will make it different from the reports prepared by the authorities."
