Gabriel Petrosyan, an investigator of the Special Investigation Service, today failed to show up in court, motivating his absence with poor health.

Petrosyan heads the inquiry into Levon Gulian's death in police custody on May 12, 2007. Levon Gulian reportedly died while being questioned at the Armenian police headquarters as a presumed witness of a deadly shooting that took place outside his Yerevan restaurant earlier the previous week. The police claimed that during the interrogation he tried to escape through a window but slipped and fell to his death from the second floor of the police building.

Gabriel Petrosyan has twice stopped the case. After contesting the decisions in court Gulian's advocates had the case reopened.

Upon the request of advocate Hrayr Ghukasyan, the investigator has been invited to court.

The advocate says their claims are substantiated from a legal point of view. The case materials and new evidence obtained during interrogations of the police escort testify to his words.

The advocate is determined to wait until the investigator appears in court and answers their questions.

"We shall be consistent. We want to hear the grounds for the investigator's decision. We have waited for 2,5 years and we are ready to wait for another month," says the advocate.
