Foreign minister accepts invitation
RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan's visit to Poland kicked off with the meeting with his Polish counterpart Radoslav Sikorski.
After the private talks held by both foreign ministers talks were held in a wide format during which the sides discussed a broad range of issues relating to Armenian-Polish relations, as well as issues of regional and international concern.
Ministers Nalbandyan and Sikorski attached importance to the organization of consultations between ministries on a regular basis as yet another format for effective cooperation.
Edward Nalbandyan and Radoslav Sikorski discussed the steps to be taken for deepening ties in the spheres of economy, education and culture. The sides exchanged views on courses for development of trade and cultural exchange.
The Armenian and Polish Foreign Ministers had a multifaceted conversation on Armenia's cooperation with the European Union and the steps to be taken in that field. Welcoming the proposal to join the EU Eastern Cooperation, Minister Nalbandyan attached importance to the signing of a free trade deal with the EU, as well as the steps to be taken towards mitigating the visa regime and possible support from Poland.
Edward Nalbadyan presented the latest developments in the Karabakh conflict settlement and possibilities for regulation of Turkish-Armenian ties. Both sides remarked that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
Accepting Minister Nalbandyan's invitation, Radoslav Sikorski said that he plans to visit Armenia in 2009.
After the meeting Ministers Nalbandyan and Sikorski signed a memorandum on cooperation between both ministries in strengthening ties with Europe.
Edward Nalbandyan was invited to give a lecture on Armenia's foreign policies at the University of Warsaw and answered the questions raised by students and professors. In response to the question on the Karabakh peace process, Edward Nalbandyan said that the negligence of the propositions established in the documents signed by Azeri leaders, the ongoing war declarations, the arms race, evident violations of the limits on arms, justification and corroboration of application of force, the anti-racial propaganda not only impede the peace talks, but threaten regional security and stability and this requires a response from the international community.
On February 17 Edward Nalbandyan is scheduled to meet with President of Poland Lekh Kachinski, President of the Seim Bronislav Komorovski and Chairman of the Senate Bogdan Borusevich, according to the information of the Foreign Ministry press service.
