EUROPEAN COMMISSION PRESIDENT TO TOUR SOUTH CAUCASUS COUNTRIES
Support A1+!European Commission President Romano Prodi will visit Azerbaijan on 16 and 17 September, Georgia on 17 and 18 September and Armenia on 18 and 19 September.
Discussions in the three countries will focus on the next steps in the European Neighbourhood Policy and more generally on bilateral relations. In connection with the European Neighbourhood Policy President Prodi will urge his counterparts to push ahead with reforms and conflict settlement. The visits follow the Council’s decision of 14 June to include the three Southern Caucasus countries in the European Neighbourhood Policy.
In Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia Romano Prodi will meet with the Presidents, the Prime Ministers, the Speakers of these countries’ Parliament and their religious leaders. In the three countries he will take the opportunity to address a wider audience of civil society representatives on the European Neighbourhood Policy and its significance for the Southern Caucasus.
