Eduard Sharmazanov: We do not share Kocharyan's opinion on constitutional amendments (video)
RA NA Vice Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov stated this at a briefing in the National Assembly that there was a need for constitutional reforms. "We respect the second president Robert Kocharyan's opinion, but we do not share it." In an interview with NTV Russian media company, Robert Kocharyan, answering the question of the reasons for the revolution in Armenia, said: "I have analyzed it. I think he (Serzh Sargsyan) should not have done constitutional amendments. I have come up with criticism of those changes in time. He should not try to hold the power in his hands by sitting down at the prime minister's seat from his chair." According to Sharmazanov, the constitutional amendments were not linked to Sargsyan's attempt to hold the power for the third term. He believes that passing to the parliamentary system was a very positive step for strengthening democracy and national security. He stated that when Republican Party (RPA) gained the majority in the elections, and they decided whom they see in that post. "We did not have more experienced players in our team to be wiser, prepared to face challenges, to realize national security, to defend Artsakh's interests." At the same time, Sharmazanov stressed that not sharing the same opinion with Kocharyan in this issue does not mean that they cannot cooperate in a wider range of issues. He believes that Kocharyan has something to say and do in the political field. According to him, RPA will work with those politicians who will share the political agenda of the RPA. The NA Vice President noted that the party's agenda is not to endanger Christian and national values, to defend Artsakh's interests, to continue the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide, to strengthen Armenia's position in the CSTO and the Eurasian Union, to implement all the points of the agreement with the EU.
